Starr Wood was a self taught artist who first worked at first as a Chartered Accountant in a debt-collecting business in the City. After his first drawing was published in 1892, he turned freelance cartoonist, contributing to many publications including Chums, Fun, Judy, Chips, Parade, John Bull, Bystander, Humorist, Passing Show, Tatler, Strand and Punch from 1898 until 1935.
