After studying at the Edinburgh College of Arts, Robert Sherriffs began having his caricatures published in The Bystander and The Sketch. In 1934 he drew a weekly cartoon for the Radio Times. After the Second World War, Sherriffs was expected to become staff cartoonist on the Daily Herald but this went to his friend, George Whitelaw, instead Sherriffs went to work at Punch and occasionlly produced illustrations for the Evening News.
