Gerald Scarfe’s first published work appearing in the Daily Sketch in 1957, and in Punch and the Evening Standard in 1960. He started drawing political cartoons for Private Eye in 1962 and his front cover for the 1963 Private Eye annual - showing Harold Macmillan as a naked Christine Keeler - caused it to be banned by the four largest book wholesalers, including W.H. Smith. Scarfe had been drawing caricatures for the Sunday Times since 1965. In 1980, Scarfe provided caricatures for the opening titles of the successful BBC political comedy "Yes Minister." Gerald Scarfe left the Sunday Times last year to join the Evening Standard where he draws a topical cartoon every Friday.
