Riley, Harry (1895 - 1966)

Harry Riley was a poster artist, commercial illustrator and political cartoonist for the Daily Mail, Daily Sketch and the Sunday Chronicle. Riley is probably best known for the posters he draw for British Rail, BOAC and Quantas and these are now highly sought-after. His work was seen by millions on trains, in the underground, in magazines and on television. Riley was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and was a member of The London Sketch Club and Savage Club. He produced artwork for Second World War propaganda posters and often wrote articles for the press. He was also a character actor and variety entertainer and even modeled for his illustrations of Burton clothes.
