NEB was a self-taught artist who began his career drawing football cartoons for the Barry Dock News and Cardiff Evening Express. He joined the Daily Mail in 1938 and drew regular pocket cartoons for the newspaper, starting at the outbreak of the Second World War and continuing until his retirement in 1960. A collection of NEB's cartoons were found in a file in Hitler’s Chancellery at the end of the war.
