McCutcheon, Shaw (1921 – 2016)

Howard Shaw McCutcheon original cartoon artwork

Howard Shaw McCutcheon was the son of Chicago Tribune editorial cartoonist John T. McCutcheon. After serving in the United States military during the Second World War, he returned to his study of art at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. McCutcheon then spent 36 years (1950–1986) as an editorial cartoonist for the Spokesman-Review before retiring in 1986. McCutcheon was unusual in that he also wrote editorials for the newspaper in addition to drawing cartoons. A collection of his work are in the permanent collection of the Northwest Museum of Art & Culture in Spokane.
