Lee, Joseph (1901 - 1974)
Joseph Lee original cartoon artwork.
Joseph Lee worked for Strand Magazine and Pall Mall Gazette before joining the Sunday Express. However, as a committed socialist, Lee resigned from the Sunday Express in 1926, to protest against their attitude to the General Strike. From 1934 to 1966 Lee worked for the London Evening News which featured his very popular ‘London Laughs’ series of joke drawings. These were the first non-political topical cartoons in Britain.
