Before winning the Sunday Times Political Cartoon Competition in 1989, Dave Brown worked as an art teacher, graphic and stage designer and motorcycle courier. He has contributed to the Daily Express, The Guardian, New Statesman and the Daily Mail in addition to being political cartoonist at The Independent since October 1998. In 2003, Brown won the Political Cartoon of the Year award, sponsored by The Economist, with his controversial cartoon of Ariel Sharon, ‘after Goya’. Two volumes of his Rogues Gallery cartoons have been published in the last few years.
