Douglas Borgstedt was a self-taught cartoonist who worked as an editorial cartoonist for the Philadelphia Evening Public Ledger and Evening Bulletin. He also drew cartoons for the Saturday Evening Post. During the Second World War, he entered the army and helped design Yank Magazine, and was featured as the magazine’s first editor. After the war, Borgstedt's cartoons were syndicated in more than 90 newspapers. This included contributions to the New Yorker, Esquire and New York magazines and also illustrated programs for the Devon Horse Show, producing animal cartoon books under the title of Pet Set.
